Living in the Ghost Town, a multiple artistic performance by “Er Da Liu” – Exhibition

“Er Da Liu” is an art group composed by young artists in Guangzhou on their own initiative. Originally formed in 2010, the group was officially named “Er Da Liu” in March 2015. Currently, the group consists of Wei Feng, Lin Chaowen, Pan Xuesheng and Huang Haiqing.

Since 2015, Er Da Liu has been visiting abandoned “ghost towns” (guicheng) across China, living and sleeping in them, recording their unique experiences of living in these ghost towns through video, performance and painting. At the same time, the artistic group also tries to break the established rules by adopting a light-hearted behaviour in order to make life and creation more interesting.

The eponymous exhibition, Er Da Liu, at Taigkoo Art Museum in Guangzhou, is a compilation and summary of all their experiences and works related to ghost towns over the past few years.

In Cantonese, the term “Er Da Liu” has a mocking connotation and is generally used to describe insignificant people.
