Modu Magazine: A Tale of Urban China

China Building Heritage – Exhibition, Conferences, Round Tables

Since the end of the 20th century, Chinese architects and urban planners have been challenged by a giant space production in China. But what are their attitudes towards history? Some are trying to relate with heritage in urban and rural areas creating new spaces, from domestic to public, from collective to individual, from culture to craft, from social to commercial use…

Different traditional and creative thinking introduce architecture and cities as a work of art bridging know-how, technology and social life. By using different processes and influences, they question their relation with the fundamental element of Chinese traditions. Being actor of a new reading on their own history they induce a new understanding of their culture and raise the question of heritage.

On an innovation path, this exhibition presents the work of most influential contemporary architects and planners as follow: 3andwich Design, Amateur Architecture Studio, Approach Architecture Studio, Archi-Union, Archstudio, Atelier Chen Haoru, Atelier Deshaus, AZL Architects, Jiakun Architects, Onearth Architecture / Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, O-Office, Original Design Studio, People’s Architecture Office, Rural Urban Framework / Hong Kong University, Trace Architecture Office, Vector Architects, ZAO/Standardarchitecture, ZHANG Jie / AN-Design Architecture, CHEN Yun / Dinghaiqiao Mutual Aid Society, Jérémy CHEVAL & Purple Roof Art Gallery, TM Studio, SHAO Yong, ZHOU Jian, ZHOU Ke
