Temple in Shichahai converted to cinema for the blind

Pioneering, innovative, intriguing, the latest cinema to open in a wing of the Shouming temple in Houhai, is not like many others: it is a cinema for the blind. Even though there is nothing particularly extraordinary in the room, unusual items such as figurines of dinosaurs, airplanes, and cars are disseminated around the room.

The cinema for the blind is in fact a tactile cinema, where touch, associated with sound, can shape a possible mental imagery. The east hall of the temple, rented by a public welfare agency, has escaped the frantic tourist programming of the Houhai area. This community and local initiative shows that there are different ways to invest and promote heritage.
