A bridge was built above a creek, dividing this Hakka village’s centre in half whilst directly linking two traditional round shaped earth buildings (Tulou). The architect Li Xiaodong, who identified a lack of communication between the two parts of the village, designed it not only as a bridge but also as a primary school with a library that can be turned into public space. It is intended to increase activity in the centre and bring new social dynamics to the city. For Li, this is an example of "Improving spatial quality of rural communities and upgrading the lifestyles of rural residents".
