Liantang, in Qingpu district, is a canal town that not only develops Qinpu’s tourism but also promotes its modernization. The new Town Hall hosts both public administration and community service in private and public areas. Its design is also based on traditional architecture, although breaking some restrictions in order to suit the contractor’s various requirements. To meet those demands, independent working spaces that include small courtyards have been scattered around a major courtyard in the centre of the building. In order to create a more pleasant and active environment, the complex includes gardens, a conference centre and, in the main courtyard, a library and a recreational room.
