In 2002, Qingpu New Town was conceived to host a large population in this district west of Shanghai. In an empty area of this new town, between a river and an elevated highway, this kindergarten is composed of several colourful boxes springing out from the first floor, which refers to children’s lively temper. In design of Xiayu Kindergarten, architects emphasized the difference between the inside and outside, with the creation of several courtyards and the plantation of trees.
