This venture was based on an idea that emerged in 1997. The construction of the Sino-French Centre in Tongji University’s campus in 2006 by promising architect Zhang Bin was designed to stimulate exchanges between China and France. This is achieved by hosting educational, cultural and economic programs, both inside the classrooms and in the public spaces of the building. Despite the ideal building and location in Tongji University, the success of these initiatives was still only partial in 2008 due to a lack of funding.
