Situated in the South of Beijing, it was renovated and rebuilt step-by-step by a real estate developer who is also an art lover in his spare time. An old heating plant dating from the 1960s was redesigned by architect Wang Hui and since 2004 hosts the Today Art Museum, the first non-governmental art museum in China, which became symbolic of the area. In addition, the project includes housing, offices, and commercial buildings. It contains different elements that evoke the past, such as the courtyard structure, a park, and the old railway, which is still in use.
