Since the construction of the Buddhist temple of Baosheng in the 9th century, Luzhi has become a flourishing water town of the Jiangnan area. It is enclosed by waterways and its centre is characterized by a network of water canals and a river that separate the town into two distinct areas. Luzhi is not only famous for its temple, but also for its 40 remaining ancient bridges made in different styles and materials and for its traditional houses, some of which are open to the public. A very detailed work has been done while renovating the old structures and respecting the authentic styles.
