Along the Huangpu River, the newly built Houtan Park has three ecological functions. The first is cleaning the water by adding oxygen; it reduces suspended sediments thanks to waterfalls, and absorbs some pollutants through wetland plants. Secondly, the park was designed to improve flood control. Finally, it aims to become a farming school.
