A Tulou is a kind of traditional circular communal residence found in South-East China. The design proposed by Urbanus agency, inspired by the ancient typology, innovatively tackles two major challenges. That is, the lack of investment from private investors towards social housing, and the lack of consideration taken into the relation between architecture and people’s ways of life. In the end, a private real estate developer was persuaded to found the project, and a high-quality interior design and well-thought links between the different parts of the building were developed.
