In order to prepare the ground for Shanghai Expo 2010, several old harbour areas were moved outside of the city. Eight kilometres of the Huangpu River’s river-banks in Shanghai has been transformed into parks and public facilities. This operation also included the transformation of a cemetery and construction of architectural pavilions and, integrates the construction of Yuz museum and Long museum in the spirit of the show’s values. Some elements of its industrial heritage, like the railway and cranes, have been preserved and integrated into the landscape.
